FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is DePelchin’s Holiday Project?

This annual effort provides gifts and basic essentials to the children and families utilizing DePelchin Children's Center services.

What does it mean to “Sponsor a Child”?

To “Sponsor a Child” means that you are committing to fulfill a child’s holiday wish list.

Each wish list includes 3 essentials and a want. We ask that all sponsors provide between 3-4 items that fall within $150 - 200 worth of gifts from each child’s wish list.

What does “3 essentials and a want” mean, relating to wish lists?

An “essential” is a basic necessity the child needs for the daily lives (ex: socks, clothes, shoes).

A “want” is a gift the child wants to receive for the holiday season (example: a bike, board games, tablet).

Are there any gift restrictions?

Yes, there are two important things to note when fulfilling a child’s wish list.

First, we are only able to accept NEW ITEMS for our holiday project.

Second, gifts MUST be nonviolent. Any play guns, nerf shooters, archery sets and/or other violent games or movies will not be distributed to children.

Can I give cash when sponsoring a child?

Please do not give cash when fulfilling a child’s wish list. You can give a gift card(s) or make a monetary contribution to DePelchin, if you prefer this approach. Please make your monetary contribution online by clicking “Make a Donation” on the Holiday Project
homepage.

Can I deliver presents directly to the children I sponsor?

We do not allow donors to deliver gifts directly to our families.

How will I know when I have signed up to “Sponsor a Child”?

You will have an opportunity to agree to the terms and conditions before securing your sponsorship. Once this happens you will receive an email be able to print the Child’s wish list that you have sponsored.

What is the deadline to drop off gifts?

All gifts MUST be delivered no later than Wednesday, December 10th to ensure delivery by Dec. 24th

Why are some adults served by the Holiday Project?

Some DePelchin programs, like our TAGS program, benefit youth who have “aged out” of foster care, and these programs are designed to support young adults between the ages of 18-21. We invite all of the populations who are in our care to participate in the Holiday Project.

What is a toy drive?

A toy drive is a way to help DePelchin collect the “most wanted” and “most essential” items that will help us complete children’s wish lists for the holiday season. You can find a complete list of suggested items on the “Host a Donation Drive” page of our holiday project website.

Can I host a toy drive in Austin, San Antonio, or Lubbock?

We are only able to accept toy drive donations from our Houston supporters due to limited storage capacity in our Austin, San Antonio and Lubbock offices.

How will gift cards and cash donations be used?

DePelchin will use the gifts cards and cash donations we receive to help fulfill wish lists. In the event that all wish lists are filled and needs met, all excess funds and gifts cards will be used to benefit the needs of the children and families receiving our services throughout the year.

What address should I use when mailing gift cards or cash donations?
